Cash Payment

Cash Payment
Did you know it is illegal to pay – or accept – cash for a scrap vehicle? A new law came into force on 1 October 2013 banning vehicle dismantlers and scrap yards from using cash to pay for scrap cars.

The law follows an increase in metal theft in recent years.

But it is not just an offence for these companies to pay cash for your old car.

You will be committing an offence if you ACCEPT cash for a vehicle from a breaker or scrap yard.

The only payments allowed are cheque, bank transfer or other electronic methods.

BUT IT IS PERFECTLY LEGAL TO PAY YOU CASH FOR A CAR IF IT CAN BE SAVED FROM THE SCRAPPER.

Many cars are scrapped simply because it is illegal to park them on the road without a Road Fund Licence – road tax.

People cannot afford to pay to keep a car which is currently not running.

But that car may still have market value.

There could be many reasons why we believe your car has market value.

It may have unusually low mileage, or be in particularly good condition for its age. It may be a desired shape or model or the brand itself may retain value.

It is impossible to say exactly which cars are sought after and which are not.

But many cars are worth more than their scrap value and if we believe your car can be re-sold rather than scrapped it is perfectly legal for us to pay you cash for the car.

We are so keen to save cars from the scrapper that even if your car does not fit our criteria we may still offer you more than its scrap value.
